Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each client has a unique set of circumstances bringing them to therapy. At Foundations Mental Health, you can expect a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where you are heard and where your feelings are validated.

In our first session you would be invited to share more about yourself, what has brought you to therapy and the goals you would like to reach by going to therapy.

I use techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Throughout our therapeutic relationship, you will be given the time and space to discuss your past experiences and daily life at a pace that is comfortable for you.

  • How often we meet will depend on your needs. In our initial consultation we would discuss the frequency of our sessions and develop a schedule that works for you. Consistency is an important part of therapy so, at first, we may develop a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. For some people, therapy lasts an average of 6 to 8 sessions, but for others, this might be more (and you're welcome to as many as you need).

  • Foundations Mental Health offers both in-person and virtual therapy to clients. In-person sessions are offered in downtown Toronto while virtual sessions are offered to any resident of Ontario. We can discuss your preference during our initial consultation call.

  • Getting started is easy! Schedule an initial consultation in our online scheduler. During your initial call, you can share what’s going on and ask me any questions you may have.

  • You do not need a referral from your doctor or medical practitioner to begin therapy.

If you intend to have your extended benefits cover some of the costs of psychotherapy services, you should check with your provider to see if a medical referral is needed to qualify for coverage.

  • Individual Therapy session fees are $150 (50 Minutes).

Couples Therapy sessions are: $200 (50 minutes)

A limited number of sliding-scale sessions are available for certain clients in financial need. Please reach out to enquire about availability and eligibility.

Mastercard, Visa and debit cards, and e-transfers are accepted.

Payment is required by the end of your session.

  • If you have an extended health care benefits plan (e.g., Blue Cross, Sun Life) you likely have some amount of coverage to see a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Get in touch with your benefits provider to learn what coverage you have available to you. Good questions to ask are:

    • Do you cover Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying)?

    • How much am I covered for?

    • What is the maximum amount per session that I am covered for?

Please note that Foundations does not offer direct billing, but will provide you with a receipt as proof of services. It is your responsibility to clarify your insurance coverage and file it.

Full payment is always due at the time of your session.

  • To cancel a scheduled therapy session, a minimum of 24 hours notice in advance of your appointment is required.

Late cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment will incur half of the regular session fee.

“No shows”, or cancellations with less than 2 hours notice, will incur the full session fee.
